The shame factor of this disease is high: Even the scientific name Psoriasis derives from the ancient Greek word “psora” for “scratch” or “scabies”. To this day, when they see psoriasis, many people think that it is a contagious disease. Psoriasis is a chronic, noncommunicable autoimmune disease that affects three percent of the European population – children and adults. In addition to the unsightly rash, the symptoms are primarily painful itching, which severely restricts the quality of life of those affected.
Georgios Kokolakis heads the acne inversa and psoriasis focus of the dermatological clinic at the Charité Berlin. In the podcast he explains what therapy options there are, why affected children have it better today than their parents and why a relationship of trust with the dermatologist is essential for therapy.
“Embarrassing – doesn’t exist” is the podcast that breaks body taboos.
Compulsions, buttocks hygiene, pain during sex – these are topics that hardly anyone likes to talk about openly. Knowledge editor Clara Ott wants to change that. In her podcast “Embarrassing – doesn’t exist” she asks experts, doctors and psychologists the questions that many do not dare to ask. Because silence is often worse than shame.
Embarrassing questions that Clara Ott should ask experts in the podcast are welcome to clara.ott@welt.de.
