(ANSA) – TRIESTE, SEPTEMBER 30 – “The introduction of the anti-violence decree law is a positive and immediate response to the emergency of aggression suffered by healthcare professionals. However, we need to develop further preventive strategies, which involve both professionals and the population in general”. This was said by the national general secretary of the Aupi psychologists’ union, Ivan Iacob, commenting on the Government’s decisions.
“It is necessary to provide tools for de-escalation and strategies to prevent the exacerbation of conflicts – he continued -: it is essential to restore to the population the value of a public health system made up of trained professionals”.
Iacob also suggested looking at the experience of the United States, where violence against healthcare workers has been taking action for over ten years. “An unacceptable phenomenon – he denounced -, which also directly affects psychologists, who increasingly find themselves in extreme situations, also thanks to the new tasks assigned to consultants by the Cartabia law, which transforms the healthcare context into a legal environment” .
In addition to legislative measures, the Aupi general secretary highlighted the need to reorganize work in emergency and first aid departments, encouraging the presence of psychologists in these structures. “These, together with others, are the choices that will have to be made to implement a real protection strategy for health professionals,” he reiterated.
In conclusion, Iacob expressed the union’s willingness to collaborate with the State, the Regions and the healthcare companies to improve the relationship between citizens and healthcare professionals, without forgetting the need to strengthen the workforce. (HANDLE).
