For the twelfth time, Élisabeth Borne triggered 49.3 on Wednesday evening to have the public finance programming law adopted without a vote. And once again, the left-wing Nupes alliance immediately tabled a motion of censure. The examination of this motion will take place on Friday evening in the National Assembly, said Thursday the entourage of President Yaël Braun-Pivet.

The conference of presidents which must formally decide on this will be held at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, and will agree that this examination will be held during the session starting at 9:30 p.m. the same evening.

Nupes tabled its motion on Wednesday around midnight. It must be voted on no earlier than 48 hours after its submission, but discussions can be held before this deadline. A motion that the RN will vote on, the party announced in a press release published this Thursday early in the afternoon: “The National Rally group will censure a government which sacrifices the French to obey the European commissioners”.

“We cannot take the slightest risk”

“We need this law to program our public finances. We cannot take the slightest risk,” explained Élisabeth Borne in the hemicycle on Wednesday. The executive is absolutely committed to the text, arguing that France is committed to providing a trajectory for Brussels to be able to obtain 17.8 billion euros in aid over the period 2023-2024.

Arguments that most oppositions refute. According to socialist Valérie Rabault, the projection to reduce the public deficit was “unattainable without seriously damaging our economy”.

The right will not table a motion of censure. “It’s a plan designed to access the 17 billion euros in European aid, we don’t want to deprive ourselves of this aid, the country needs it. France’s rating is already downgraded for borrowing,” explained Olivier Marleix, MP for Eure et Loir and president of the Les Républicains group in the National Assembly, this Thursday morning on Sud Radio.
