Too many questions, too many gray areas. Coroner Géhane Kamel announced the “exceptional” addition of three days of hearings on the wave of deaths at CHSLD Herron.

“I slept very badly,” she said Thursday morning, opening what was to be the last day of the hearing. I felt like I left with a lot of questions and half answers, or answers that didn’t satisfy me. […] What we are looking for is the truth, and the truth is random in this story. ”

The coroner hopes to hear from at least four witnesses as part of the three additional days, which will be held in October. She did not disclose the names of the people who will be called. “Then I will feel like I come full circle and sleep soundly and tell myself that I was at the end of it. I told you four [témoins], but I may sleep even less well. ”

Mme Kamel also announced that she will view the images of the surveillance cameras in place at Herron, in particular in the days that led to the crisis of March 29, 2020. “What it will give me is [de voir si] I have people who, on March 27, 28, 29, leave the boat and leave residents to themselves. ”

Herron owner Samantha Chowieri said on Wednesday that workers either left the center overnight, 28-29, or simply failed to show up for their shift.

The coroner had a thought for the relatives of the victims. Despite the thirty or so witnesses heard, “if I were one of the families, I would have the impression of leaving with so many questions”.
