The anti-discrimination student movement’s ‘Gantraan’ program is ongoing at Dhaka University’s Student-Teacher Center (TSC) for the flood victims. A total of Tk 5 crore 23 lakh 3 thousand 603 has been collected in 4 days till 5 pm on Sunday (August 25) in online-offline combination. And 50 trucks of relief materials have been sent to different areas. Each truck carries 800 to 1000 relief packages (one family) and 20-30 cases of water. On the other hand, a total of 30 lakh 12 thousand 970 taka has been spent in various sectors.

This information was given in a press conference at around 7:30 pm yesterday. The anti-discrimination student movement’s public relief collection began last Thursday. On the fourth day yesterday, a flood of people came to the campus to give relief.

Each package is being made for one family, said the press conference. It contains essential dry food, water and medicines. Apart from this, 3,000 packages have been distributed by helicopters to remote flood-affected areas under the supervision of the Air Force. Besides, cash assistance of Tk 3 lakh 96 thousand 500 has been given.

Private cars, trucks, auto-rickshaws, vans and rickshaws brought food, clothes, medicine and essential items for the flood victims from different places of the capital on the initiative of individuals or organizations. Volunteers are struggling to manage large amounts of relief.

Earlier on Saturday, as the TSC and Daksu cafeterias were filled with relief supplies, the relief collection took place at the university’s central ground-adjacent gymnasium. Relief materials are piled inside the field gallery and gymnasium.

Lutfar Rahman, Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Rezwan Ahmed Rifat of Media and Communication Wing and Sanjana Afifa Aditi, Coordinator of Public Relief Collection TSC booth spoke at the press conference.
