Professionals registered with EnginyersGi, who work in the public sector, they consider that they suffer discrimination in terms of their professional classification, since according to the current regulations these professionals are in subgroup A2 within the professional classification of the public administration. Through a statement from College of Graduate Engineers and Technical Industrial Engineers of Gironathey claim that “this causes a crystal ceiling in terms of job development», because they cannot access «places of responsibility nor have the same recognition as those who are part of the A1 subgroup».

The Girona engineers want to get the subcategories removed that exist within Group A of public workers. A fact that they point out has already been abolished in the private sector. They believe that the change would increase competitiveness in the public sector and improve service to citizens.

They consider that this employment discrimination has origen in the implementation of the Plan Bologna. At that time the distinctions between bachelor’s and diploma disappeared because everything became degrees. However, the current regulations of the public sector still maintain the distinction between these two groups: those who used to have diplomas are part of group A2 while those who used to have degrees are part of group A1. The professionals defend that it is fair that all graduates are part of Group A without distinction.

They point out that it was the lack of political will which has prevented subcategories A1 and A2 from being deleted. A change that should allow graduates of this collective have the same opportunities of development in the public sector than the other graduates
