SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – After the division in the evangelical bench, a new split affects the political base associated with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). This time, involving the public security parliamentary front, known as the “bullet bench”.

At the root of the dispute is the struggle for space between the Military Police, the most visible face of the public security apparatus in Brazil, and the other forces operating in the area.

Retired Colonel of the PM of the Federal District and one of the best-known exponents of the segment, deputy Alberto Fraga (PL) says he has support in the House to preside over the front. “If there is no betrayal, I have a majority,” he says. He has the support of the current president of the front, Captain Augusto (PL-SP), also from the Military Police.

A graduate of the Federal Highway Police, deputy Nicoletti (União-RR), says he defends a more “participatory” front. “In recent years, the front fought more for one category than for the others”, he says, referring to the PM. “I want to include municipal guards, criminal police, highway, federal and civil police”, he says.

There is also a difference in regimental interpretation. Nicoletti is collecting signatures to recreate the front, a formality at the beginning of each legislature, and understands that this guarantees him the presidency of the collegiate. Fraga says that there needs to be an internal vote.

It is estimated that the bullet bench will have about 300 deputies in the new legislature.
