The administration of Medellín and Airbnb join forces in the fight against child exploitation in tourism
– 2024-04-10 02:56:43″>Mayor Federico Gutiérrez has already completed one hundred days, and in the balance the president highlights the great first tasks that have had to be tackled. Not only has it been up to the new officials to submit complaints to the competent authorities regarding alleged findings of corruption, but also to decisively confront the scourge of sexual exploitation, draft and present for approval the Development Plan, organize public finances and try to make the little silver cup shine again.
What is missing a lot? Of course! With all the patience that is required, we Medellin residents hope that the – no longer so – new district administration will begin to carry out the work of “adjustment and painting” that the city’s public space needs. Here are some examples of carelessness in urban real estate.
There is nowhere to stand
Bus stops not only serve as shelter from the sun and rain for those waiting for the arrival of public transportation, but have also been, for many years, useful for the location of advertising notices and educational and information campaigns of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín. In many places in El Poblado they have become ruins.
1. Stop without a roof on the Inferior transversal, at the height of the Verona mall.
2. This panel with useful information for users was vandalized several months ago. 10th Street with El Poblado Avenue.
3. Is it not possible to find a better use for these structures? 9th Street with El Poblado Avenue.
4. This is the only vestige of what was once a public property. 10th Street with El Poblado Avenue.
Details that do not fall in love
Public space is our common home. And, like our own home, it requires extreme care of what in urban slang is called decoration. The lack of maintenance of signage, urban real estate, gardens or monuments creates a feeling of general neglect. We hope that the district administration reserves resources and human talent for these small works that generate big changes.
5-6. The La Presidenta linear park is in the entire tourist heart of El Poblado. How many years have these signs been changed?
7. The La Frontera linear park is one of the green lungs of Comuna 14 that receives the most visitors. The railing of this pedestrian bridge requires a little hand, not only for aesthetics but also for safety.
8. A lot of water and dust have received these beautiful public chairs, located on the Inferior transversal, at the height of 8th street.
9-10. The beautiful murals that covered the walls of the building in front of the Palermo Cultural (8th Street and 42nd Street) lasted a very short time. Why disrespect the work of others?
Walls that scream
The walls of the city belong to all of us and, therefore, they must be spaces that respect common enjoyment. These are three examples of how some individuals have taken the right to scratch, destroy or cover walls. Art or nonsense? The discussion remains open.
11-12. Although the electoral law requires candidates in the last regional elections to remove propaganda from public spaces, it is unheard of that, six months later, these posters are still up. Isn’t it time to demand that the candidates (now public officials) fulfill their obligation? (10th Street interchange with Regional Avenue).
13. This is the wall of the old public school of Comuna 14, Guillermo Echavarría Misas, located in the heart of El Poblado park.
