Responding to questions on the decree relating to public support for the press, publishing, printing and distribution, during a press briefing following the Government Council, Mr. Bensaid indicated that this decree, adopted the same day by the Council, aims to support investments dedicated to the emergence of free and solid national press companies, capable of defending national causes at the regional and international levels and of promoting the image of the Kingdom throughout the world by promoting the values ​​forging the unique Moroccan identity.

This decree, which comes at a time of difficult economic conditions for press companies, marked by a drop in advertising revenue, attaches great importance to the social aspect and the preservation of jobs, explained the minister, stressing that “the journalist, as the linchpin, should be the core target of this support”.

This initiative is likely to improve the performance of this noble profession and to strengthen the place of the responsible press and its role in the fight against disinformation, continued Mr. Bensaid.

After calling for the involvement of all parties concerned in the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting the national press, the minister noted that the decree in question does not only aim to support large companies, but also ensures that the development of the economic model of small press companies is supported.

As approved by the Government Council, the decree setting the conditions and modalities for benefiting from public support intended for the press, publishing, printing and distribution sectors, also aims to modernize companies operating in these sectors on the basis of the principles of transparency, equal opportunities and neutrality.

It is also about developing reading, promoting pluralism and supporting human resources through capacity building, training and support for qualification.
