/ A spokesman for the German sportswear company Puma revealed on Tuesday that the company will end its sponsorship of the Israeli national football team next year, in a decision that was taken before the repercussions of the sudden attacks launched by the Hamas movement inside Israeli territory.

The spokesman said in an emailed statement: “While two national teams have recently signed, including a new team – which will be announced later this year – some contracts with national football federations will expire in 2024, including the Israeli Federation and the Serbian Federation.”

The spokesman added that the company made this decision in 2022, as part of its new “Less – Bigger – Better” strategy, which is in line with the timelines for designing and developing shirts for teams and clubs sponsored by “Puma.”

The British newspaper, the Financial Times, had previously revealed that decision.

The boycott calls, led by Palestinians, had called for a boycott of the sports clothing company, before the October 7 attack, because of its sponsorship of the Israeli national team.

Boycott calls increased in strength, and extended to include more companies and products, following the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, which came in response to the attack by Hamas, classified as a terrorist movement, on southern Israel.
