The recent landslides in Puncak, Bogor, have resulted in multiple casualties; the disaster has claimed the lives of three people, and one individual remains missing.
Horror in Megamendung and Cisarua
Landslides struck two locations within the Bogor Regency: Megamendung District and Cisarua District. Heavy rains on Saturday, July 5, 2025, are believed to have triggered the disaster, causing widespread damage and prompting immediate rescue efforts.
Rudy, a local official, stated that floodwaters in several areas had receded, allowing authorities to focus on victim rescue and providing essential supplies to those affected by both floods and landslides.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Initially, six people were reported buried. One person was found dead, and rescue teams continue searching for the remaining individuals. Survivors have been transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
“We visited the Megamendung area, one of the boarding schools affected by landslides. There was a casualty, he was 22 years old, male, from Cianjur,” officials reported.
The second landslide location is in Cisarua District, where five victims were initially identified. Three have been safely evacuated to the hospital, while two remain missing.
Grim Discoveries
On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the combined SAR team recovered two bodies from the landslide debris in Puncak, Bogor. Ipda Ajub Wilustombang, from Danton SAR Company 2 Pioneer Troops 1 Brimob Kedunghalang Bogor, noted the evacuation’s success, aided by various organizations and the public.
“Evacuation runs smoothly thanks to assistance from the public, from fellow TNI, Polri, Basarnas, Satpol PP, Tagana, and Damkar,” said Ipda Ajub Wilustombang.
“There are two victims who were found dead,” he confirmed.
These two victims had been buried since 9:00 p.m. the previous night, along with three others who were rescued and hospitalized. The search began immediately and continued until the bodies were located around 11:30 a.m.
Desiana Kartika Bahari, Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, identified the deceased as Ruben, 30, and Jeremy, 28. Their bodies were found at a depth of 1.5 meters and transported to Lung Hospital Dr. M Goenawan Partowidigdo Cibereum for family arrangements.
One Still Missing Near Ciesek River
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported a total of three fatalities from the Puncak landslides. One individual remains missing and is believed to have been swept into the Ciesek River while fishing.
“For the victims died 3 people, (the details) 1 lives in Megamendung Village, Megamendung District and 2 people in North Tugu Village, Cisarua District. While the victims were still in search of as many as 1 person, in Cipayung Girang Village, Megamendung District,” stated Dejan Habiburrahman, BPBD Pusdalops Staff Bogor Regency, on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The missing person was last seen at 6:30 p.m. while fishing near the Ciesek River. According to M Adam Hamdani, Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Bogor Regency, the victim was fishing in an area known as “dollar alley” when a landslide occurred behind the fish pond.
The fishing manager warned the victim to move, but the warning was ignored, resulting in the individual being swept away by the landslide.
Search Continues
Adam indicated that the victim might be buried under the landslide debris or carried away by the Ciesek River. The identity of the missing person is currently unknown, and the search operation is ongoing.
“There are two possibilities, the victim was buried by a landslide or carried by the Ciesek river. The victim’s identity was unknown, the search was still carried out,” Adam said.
