Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was discharged from Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Sunday. He was suffering from the bacterial infection ‘leptospirosis’. Sources gave this information. Earlier, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains visited the hospital and inquired about Mann’s health. Congress MLA Pargat Singh also met the Chief Minister at the hospital. Sources said that the Chief Minister has called a meeting to review the paddy procurement system on Sunday evening. He told that the meeting will be held at Mann’s official residence at five in the evening.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Mann (50) was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali late on Wednesday night for a routine check-up. Mann was confirmed to be suffering from ‘leptospirosis’ on Saturday. Doctors had declared his condition stable. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ‘Leptospirosis’ is a bacterial disease, which affects both humans and animals. Humans become infected through direct contact with the urine of infected animals or urine-contaminated environments. The bacteria enter the body through a cut or scratch on the skin, or through the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and eyes.

In the health bulletin on Saturday, Fortis Hospital Director and Head of Cardiology Department, Dr. R.K. Jaswal said that there have been signs of significant improvement in the Chief Minister’s health. The health bulletin states that the treatment for increased pulmonary artery pressure is having a good effect. Jaswal said on Friday that the blood pressure of the Chief Minister has become irregular due to increased pressure in the pulmonary artery. He told that some heart related tests were also done.
