Purchase of arms worth Rs.70,500 crore

New Delhi: The Defense Procurement Council approves the procurement of arms for the defense forces. In this case, the Defense Procurement Council headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday approved the plan to purchase weapons worth over Rs 70,500 crore under the Self-Reliance India Project. According to this, 307 modern artillery pieces (ATAGS) will be procured from the Army Research and Development Center (DRDO).

Purchase of 200 BrahMos missiles for naval use, helicopters worth Rs 56,000 crore and electronic warfare equipment has also been approved. It has also approved the purchase of long-range missiles that can be used on the Air Force’s Sukai fighter jets. 2,71,538 crore procurement of military equipment during 2022-23 has been approved.

Defense officials said that 98.9 percent of this will be purchased from Indian companies. The purchase has been approved amid the tense situation on the India-China border.
