Putin announced overcoming the economic consequences of the pandemic

The Russian economy as a whole has overcome the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of economic leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

“We can say that, in general, the consequences of the pandemic have been overcome, the economy as a whole has recovered,” Putin said, quoted by the Kremlin’s press service. The President recalled that Russia has implemented a set of measures aimed at preserving the income and employment of the population, supporting business, and providing assistance to the most affected industries. Their implementation allows “already this year to confidently go to the positive dynamics of growth.”

Putin noted that Russia is ready to share its anti-crisis developments, including within the framework of the ministerial dialogue on macroeconomic and structural policy.

At the end of May, Putin announced the recovery of the Russian economy, despite the difficulties, drawing attention to the fact that Russia’s GDP in January-March this year was only 1% lower than in the first quarter of last year. The downward trend in unemployment, the president noted, remains stable. In June, he stated that the Russian economy was emerging from the crisis caused by the pandemic, and stressed that Russia’s imminent entry to “new frontiers” did not raise doubts in him.
