Speaking at the opening of the Russia-Africa summit, in Saint Petersburg (Russia), the leader stated that “in the next three to four months we will be ready to supply between 25,000 and 50,000 tons of cereals free of charge to Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Republic Central Africa and Eritrea”.

The information was advanced by the Portuguese media, Sic Notícias, and also reports that Russia will also bear the cost of transporting the grains.

The words of the Russian head of state were broadcast on television in that European country, reads the news, arguing that “they arise in a context of concern among African countries, following the recent termination of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian cereals to the Black Sea”.

The Russia-Africa Summit, considered an important forum and platform for exchanges, takes place in a different context due to the apparent threat to the continuity of the Russian and Ukrainian grain agreement on which many African states are dependent.

The first edition took place in 2019 and the second takes place from today, July 27th until tomorrow, the 28th, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, with the participation of 49 of the 54 African countries, according to some information.

The Head of State, João Lourenço, is being represented at the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, who has been on Russian soil since Tuesday.
