Putin called low incomes of citizens “the main enemy” of Russia

by time news

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with deputies of the 8th convocation of the State Duma in the Kremlin. He stated that the main problem for Russia is the low income of citizens. To solve this problem, he, in particular, proposed to switch to the indexation of mother capital not according to forecast, but according to actual inflation from 2022, and also instructed the government to develop additional measures to support Russians in the context of increased inflation within a month.

“Our country, which means we all have many common complex challenges, and I repeat our main enemy – the threat of stable development for the demographic future – is the low income of our citizens, millions of our people,” the head of state said.

Addressing the deputies, the president called it important that their legislative initiatives be linked to national development goals, and that “everyone should act together for the common good.”

According to him, in the country in the coming years it is necessary to form an integral system of support for families with children, “from the moment when the expectant mother is still waiting for the baby to appear, and until the child finishes school.” The President explained that work in this direction is proceeding in stages, and each step is provided with opportunities for unconditional funding.

Mr Putin noted that inflation this year will exceed the forecast level of 5.8%. He stated that this is hitting the poorest groups of the population hard. “I propose, starting from 2022, also to switch to the indexation of maternity capital not according to the forecast, but according to the actual inflation for the previous year,” he said. According to the president, there are enough funds in the country’s budget to index social benefits based on actual inflation.
