Putin commented on the refusal of the Russian Federation from the dollar as a reserve currency

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia does not want to get rid of the dollar as a reserve currency or a universal means of payment.

He said this during the SPIEF at a meeting with the heads of world news agencies.

According to him, the dollar is used as part of the application of anti-Russian sanctions by Washington. The head of state noted that he did not say that he intends to get rid of the American currency as a universal means of payment or as a reserve currency.

“I was talking about something else. I said that the United States is using the dollar, using its national currency for various sanctions, ”the Russian leader explained.

Putin earlier that day expressed the view that US actions are damaging the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.
