Putin: DPR and LPR are recognized within the borders of the regions

by time news

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that disputed border issues should be resolved between Kiev, the DPR and the LPR during negotiations. According to him, Russia recognized the DPR and LPR within the boundaries of the republics defined by the constitutions. They coincide with the borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

“We recognized them. This means that we recognized all their fundamental documents, including the constitution. And the constitution spells out the borders within the Donetsk and Lugansk regions at the time when they were part of Ukraine. Well, we expect, I emphasize this, that all controversial issues will be resolved during negotiations between the current Kiev authorities and the leadership of these republics,” the president said.

Vladimir Putin said that the Minsk agreements “were killed” long before Russia recognized the DNR and LNR. Earlier, Moscow has repeatedly stated that Kiev refuses to comply with the terms of the Minsk agreements with the help of “Western partners”. The President emphasized that at the moment, territorial disputes between Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR cannot be resolved through negotiations, but in the future it will be possible.

In response to a question from Kommersant’s special correspondent Andrei Kolesnikov about the use of Russian troops, Vladimir Putin noted that the troops would not be sent to Donbass right now. “It is impossible to predict a specific outline of actions, it will depend on the development of the situation on the ground,” the president replied. After that, Vladimir Putin added that good should not be powerless, “it should be able to defend itself.”
