Berlin, Washington With iron faces, the leading Russian generals sat opposite their supreme commander Vladimir Putin on Wednesday afternoon in the Defense Ministry on the banks of the Moskva. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, sitting next to the President, also listened, outwardly motionless, to Putin’s remarks, who demanded that those who were taking orders “achieve all the goals set for us”, i.e. a victory over Ukraine.
Putin hailed that unlike other countries, Russia has “everything” in this war. He promised his army to equip them with the latest technology and as much money as needed. But even that couldn’t lighten the faces.
The belief in a victory in Ukraine, in a real resurgence of the Russian armed forces, seems to have died out. The short speech had little of the expected big speech from Putin.
