Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly being treated for cancer and is being handed over power as he has to undergo surgery. The US media, the New York Post, reported this.

Russia’s Security Council Secretary of State Nikolai Patrushev has been temporarily transferred to Russia. Doctors reportedly said Putin needed an operation. The U.S. media quoted a Telegram channel as saying that a former Russian foreign intelligence service was being run by a lieutenant general.

According to the report, Putin may have to step down for some time as part of his treatment. However, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said media reports could not confirm the report. It is reported that Putin had a detailed discussion with the Secretary of the Security Council a few days ago about going on leave.

The Telegram Channel reports that Putin may not be ready to hand over power to Patroshev for long, and that he will have only two or three days to complete his duties.
