Putin meets with Aliyev and Pashinyan in Sochi

The trilateral meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan began in Sochi. The event was broadcast by the Russia 24 TV channel.

The Kremlin’s website says that the meeting is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the signing of the Statement on a Ceasefire and All Military Operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Zone of November 9, 2020.

“A lot has been done during this time. Unfortunately, not all questions have been resolved yet. I also know about incidents at the border, tragic incidents when people on both sides are killed and injured. These are all things that require special attention from our side, ”Putin said.

On November 14, Azerbaijan and Armenia accused each other of shelling on the contact line in the Zangezur region of Armenia and the Kelbajar region of Azerbaijan. The Armenian Defense Ministry reported on an attempt to break through the country’s border in the east by the Azerbaijani troops.

On November 16, during the fighting on the border with Azerbaijan, six people were killed from the Armenian side, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported. The department noted that with the mediation of the Russian side, work is underway to return the prisoners and search for the missing. The situation on the border with Azerbaijan was assessed by the Armenian Defense Ministry as “relatively stable”. On this day and November 21, Putin and Pashinyan discussed the situation at the border by telephone. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry also reported on military operations on the border.
