The President of Russia proposed to award state awards to teachers and employees of gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan, where an armed attack took place two days ago.
“Nobody left his post. All have fulfilled their professional duty and human duty. I would like to ask you to submit a proposal on awarding state awards to teachers and other employees of the gymnasium, ”Putin said during a meeting with government members, broadcast by the Russia 24 TV channel.
According to Putin, during the attack, the teachers and all the staff at the gymnasium acted with courage, heroism, and the highest degree of professionalism. They rescued children as if they were their own people, and covered them with themselves. “Just like a very young girl, English teacher Elvira Ignatieva did. Sacrificed her life for her students. I know that many teachers in the terrible moments of the attack, when shots sounded in the building, stood at the entrance to the classrooms and were ready to fight, to protect their students, ”he stressed.
Putin called the incident in the Kazan gymnasium a “terrible misfortune” and “barbaric crime” and noted that in difficult days the whole of Russia was and remains next to Tatarstan, everyone who faced the tragedy will receive all the necessary support and assistance.
On the morning of May 11, 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev came with a smooth-bore gun he had purchased to gymnasium No. 175. He opened fire there, as a result of which nine people died, seven of whom were children. 23 people were injured. Yesterday, the Sovetsky District Court of Kazan arrested the attacker for two months, until July 11 inclusive. He admitted his guilt in what he had done.
