The introduction of additional restrictions on transport using QR codes before the New Year will create many problems for citizens, President Vladimir Putin said. Yesterday the bill proposing such a norm was removed from the State Duma’s consideration.

“On New Year’s Eve, to impose restrictions of this kind is a rather complicated story, we will create many problems for people,” the president said at a meeting with the government.

Yesterday, the State Duma Council withdrew from consideration the bill on the introduction of QR codes in transport. According to the Secretary of the General Council of “United Russia” Andrei Turchak, this bill is not yet ready for adoption, its consideration has been postponed indefinitely. Mr. Turchak noted that the party will prepare amendments to the document for the second reading.

In November, the government submitted to the State Duma bills that, as part of the fight against coronavirus, will unify the use of QR codes throughout the country. If adopted, from February 1, 2022, Russians will be able to visit places of mass events, cultural institutions, catering and retail facilities with the presentation of either a certificate of vaccination or previous illness, or a medical evacuation from vaccination. The State Duma and the government decided to withdraw from consideration the bill on the introduction of QR codes in transport.
