Putin rejects Zhirinovsky’s idea of exiling lawbreakers to Siberia

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky, at a meeting between the president and the leadership of the parties that entered the new State Duma, proposed “to restore such a concept as exile.” So, in his opinion, Siberia can be raised. However, Vladimir Putin noted that this is cruel and ineffective, and the methods of developing this territory should be more humane.

Zhirinovsky said that it is necessary to build new cities in Siberia, but it remains unclear who will inhabit them.

“Therefore, we propose to restore such a concept as a link, – he said. – Do you remember the players: Mamaev and Kokorin? Instead of a colony, they should be exiled to Siberia, where football could be raised.

The politician noted that Siberia has historically developed at the expense of exiles. “Let them work there for the good of the homeland,” he suggested.

Vladimir Putin agreed with him that it was necessary to develop Siberia. “But providing manpower through exile is not our method,” he stressed. “You yourself criticize the times of Stalinism. But you propose exile.

“We must try!” Zhirinovsky didn’t give up. “Those who rebelled on Pushkin Square — here are them, for example, in the carriage to Magadan. And they will not rebel.”

Vladimir Putin once again doubted that this would be effective. According to him, it is necessary to create “interesting, well-paid jobs, and people will go on their own.”

“And there is no need to exile,” he explained. “The trick is that specialists are needed, and not everything in a row. Not some idlers who are engaged in idle talk, but high-level specialists.”
