He stated that “the field of combat operations is large, it covers almost 2 thousand square kilometers and the mechanism is huge.”

On December 1, Putin signed a decree to increase the full-time staff of the Russian army by 130,000 to 1,320,000.
Thus, it follows from his words that currently 45 percent of the Russian army is in Ukraine.
RFE/RL writes that the real number may be more or less than this, as the army staff is always understaffed.
On the other hand, the number stated by the president does not take into account the 300,000 soldiers who were mobilized by his other decree.
