Putin: the level of poverty in Russia must be minimized

by time news

The Russian authorities, among other things, must reduce the level of poverty to a minimum in the country, “pull a significant number of people out of it,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the leaders of the parties that passed to the State Duma of the VIII convocation. The event was broadcast by the Russia 24 TV channel.

“We all have many common challenges and common tasks. It is necessary to reduce the level of poverty in the country to a minimum, to get a significant number of people out of it, ”he said.

Among other tasks facing the new composition of the State Duma, the President highlighted the improvement of living conditions, development and education, as well as nutrition in families with low incomes, as well as increasing the availability of high-quality modern education and healthcare. The head of state called the continuation of changes in the structure of the economy in favor of advanced high-tech industries, as well as growth in the pace of the domestic economy, another “extremely difficult, but absolutely priority task”.

In August, Putin instructed the government to organize monitoring of the incomes of poor citizens and, if necessary, introduce additional social support. According to the national goals approved by the president, the authorities should achieve a halving of the poverty level in Russia – to 6.6%. Initially, it was supposed to achieve this goal by 2024, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the date was postponed to 2030.

At a July 19 council meeting, Putin said the poverty reduction target should be adjusted to reflect a 3.9% real wage growth in 2020.
