Putin took pity on billionaires: government rejected luxury tax

Social justice is not worth a tear on an oligarch’s cheek

The government did not support the bill on the introduction of a luxury tax. According to the initiative of the parliamentary opposition, the luxury tax would have to be paid by owners of housing and land plots worth 50 million rubles or more, cars worth 8 million rubles or more, as well as airplanes, helicopters, yachts, boats worth 15 million rubles or more. Why didn’t they support it? Because it’s … unfair to the rich.

For luxury real estate, tax rates were provided from 0.3% to 3%, depending on the value, for cars – from 1% to 5%, for yachts and aircraft – from 3% to 7%. But the authorities considered that all this property “is already subject to taxation by other taxes (tax on property of individuals, tax on property of organizations, land tax, transport tax)”, which provide for an increased level of taxation taking into account its value. That is, double taxation will result. You can’t tear three skins off the rich.

It is enough to look at the incomes, houses and cars of representatives of the government and the elite to understand who the new tax would be hitting. They are not their own enemies.

Vladimir Putin wrote an article in 2012 “Building Justice. Social policy for Russia ”. There were such statements: “Russia is a welfare state. We have a much higher level of social guarantees than countries with comparable levels of labor productivity and per capita income ”. And even recipes: “Every ruble channeled into the social sphere must” produce justice. ” A fair structure of society and economy is the main condition for our sustainable development in these years. “

These were the words.

Diverting a luxury tax is a real action, a fresh example of a series of such actions.

Action, not chatter, produces results.

The results are as follows: Russian billionaires became richer by $ 13.8 billion last year. The number of the poor in Russia was 17.8 million, or 12.1% of the total population of the country. These are the people who live on less than about 12 thousand rubles a month.

In the first half of 2021, the fortune of Russian billionaires grew by another $ 36.354 billion. The number of poor people increased by 200 thousand – 18 million.

Well, have you built justice? Not?

Maybe it’s time to understand that under the current government, no social justice is worth a tear on the cheek of a tortured billionaire.
