Russian President Vladimir Putin met with visiting Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Politburo member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss international issues including the Ukraine crisis and praise China’s proposed solution to the Ukraine crisis.

On the 12th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that “Minister Wang, who visited St. Petersburg to attend the BRICS high-level security representatives’ meeting, met with President Putin that day, and the two sides exchanged opinions on the Ukraine issue.”

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during the meeting, President Putin highly evaluated the “(six) common understandings on a political solution to the Ukraine crisis” submitted by China and Brazil to the United Nations.

The six consensuses are China’s proposed solutions to the Ukraine crisis, jointly announced by Vice Minister Wang and Brazilian President Celso Amorim on May 24.

The six are ▲Prohibition of expansion, escalation, and provocation of the front line ▲Holding of an international peace conference with equal participation of Russia and Ukraine and fair discussions ▲Expansion of humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, and exchange of prisoners of war ▲Opposition of the use of weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear weapons, biochemical weapons, and efforts to prevent nuclear crises ▲Opposition of attacks on nuclear power plants and peaceful nuclear facilities ▲Opposition of division of the world and closed political and economic groupings and maintenance of supply chain stability.

In response, Vice Minister Wang said, “China is promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis and will work with other parties to gather objective, balanced, and rational voices in the international community.”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also reported that President Putin reaffirmed his openness to Ukraine peace talks.

Meanwhile, President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet again on the occasion of the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan, Russia from October 22 to 24.

Vice Minister Wang said during his meeting with President Putin that “Chairman Xi very gladly accepted your invitation to attend the BRICS summit.”
