Despite the warnings, Putin asserted that Russia poses no danger to European nations, stating, There is no such threat, and never has been. We do not threaten, nor do we intend to threaten, European countries.
Moscow has repeatedly characterized the prospect of a European peacekeeping force in Ukraine as entirely unacceptable.
Intensified Air Strikes and Civilian Casualties Across Ukraine
The high-level diplomatic warnings coincided with an intensifying Russian air campaign utilizing ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones against Ukrainian population centers and infrastructure. Officials reported that Moscow’s attacks have systematically targeted Ukraine’s power grid ahead of winter to demoralize civilians. In the city of Zaporizhzhia, an overnight drone strike on a residential area killed two people and wounded one, according to regional head Ivan Fedorov. In Kryvyi Rih, separate strikes resulted in one death and three injuries. Meanwhile, the Black Sea port of Odesa and its surrounding area suffered what regional head Oleh Kiper described as a massive attack,
leaving 35 people wounded and completely destroying the upper floors of a residential high-rise. Additional strikes in the Zhytomyr region killed two people at a local grocery store.
Border Incidents and Cross-Border Operations
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on Thursday that recent security incidents along Ukraine’s borders with Poland and Moldova foreshadow potential intensified Russian provocations at European border crossings. On Tuesday night, Russian drones struck the Starokozache border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova, killing two people. A subsequent direct threat to a Polish-Ukrainian crossing point on Wednesday night was averted through cooperative security measures between Warsaw and Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces launched retaliatory drone operations against industrial targets inside Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces struck two chemical industry facilities located in Samara and Perm. Diplomatic Posturing, Negotiations, and Potential Summit Meetings
Amid the ongoing conflict, diplomatic positions regarding potential peace talks remain sharply divided. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview published Saturday by Deutsche Welle that he is willing to meet with Putin if both leaders receive invitations to the upcoming Group of 20 summit scheduled for December in Miami reported by CBS News.
The Kremlin responded cautiously to the proposal. Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, noted that the possibility of Putin attending the G20 summit has not yet been discussed. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated Moscow’s long-standing stance that Zelenskyy must travel to Moscow if he desires a bilateral meeting, a condition that Kyiv continues to reject.
