Every year the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, gives his traditional speech on New Year’s Eve, a few minutes before the year turns. This year, the speech is usually filmed against the backdrop of Red Square in the Russian capital, Moscow, but this year it turns out that the speech was broadcast from a military base in one of the country’s cities. Although Putin usually stands alone in the speech, this year a unit of soldiers stood in the background – or so he would like you to think.

After the speech, whose main purpose was to praise the war in Ukraine and call it a sacred duty and a fight for the country’s sovereignty, one journalist from Belarus noticed something interesting about one of the female soldiers who stood behind the president. A quick comparison with other filmed speeches of the president revealed that the same woman had already “starred” in them before, each time in a different role.

It turns out that the same woman, at this time unidentified, played other roles in the past, including a woman who believes in the church, a sailor on a boat and last night also a soldier. This quickly became viral and led to quite a few jokes and disdain at the expense of the Russian president.
