Putin’s soldiers in Chernobyl irradiated – BZ Berlin

Wherever they dug in and built fortifications, they’re on red alert. Literally …

When reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded in April 1986, the surrounding area in particular was so badly contaminated that life was no longer possible. Directly to the west of the nuclear power plant, most of the animals and plants died. The trees that survived turned red from exposure to so much radiation. Since then, this area has been called the Red Forest and is a no-go zone.

This is exactly where the Russian occupying forces dug trenches, as drone footage now proves! In doing so, they uncovered the heavily contaminated earth – and severely contaminated themselves.

“It is impossible to quantify the extent of the radioactive contamination of Russian soldiers,” said power plant director Valeriy Seyda. In an interview published on the authority’s website, Energoatom boss Petro Kotin said that the soldiers were not physicists and were sent to the radioactive region completely unaware.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk wrote on her Facebook page that they received such a high dose of radiation that “doctors in protective suits will have to explain the consequences to them”.

How does such intense radiation affect the body?

“When radiation is released, it is a form of energy. This energy destroys the DNA of the cell nuclei,” explains Dr. Thomas Aßmann in BILD. “So much is broken that the body can no longer regenerate it. People get nausea, diarrhea, vomiting first. After this, the production of red and white blood cells and platelets fails. They die of internal bleeding. You don’t just get the radiation in from the outside. If the soldiers dug without NBC protection, they also got the radiation into their bodies. The radiation is in the lungs and stomach. That’s why people walk around with NBC protective masks (gas masks).”

If the soldiers are as badly contaminated as assumed, will they have to reckon with death?

dr Aßmann: “That can happen, yes. Such a death from radioactive contamination usually lasts four to six weeks. The cells in our body die and are renewed every day. Due to the destruction caused by the radiation, they are no longer renewed. The intestinal cells go first because they have a higher regeneration speed. Last come the bone cells. A corrosive death.”

On February 24, the day the Ukraine was invaded, Russian troops took control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and arrested the personnel, who could only be replaced after almost a month. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi announced that he would soon send a delegation to Chernobyl to visit the plant. He wants to lead the mission himself, Grossi added.

“Russia behaved irresponsibly in Chernobyl in every respect,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. “From not allowing staff to do their job to digging trenches in contaminated area.”

According to the Daily Mail, Yaroslav Yemelianenko, a worker at Ukraine’s Exclusion Zone Inspectorate, said: “With minimal intelligence on the part of the commanders or the soldiers, these consequences could have been avoided.” He says several radiation treatment units may be brought to Belarus had to. “Radiation protection is mandatory, because radiation is physics – it is independent of status or rank.”
