PwC’s mergers and acquisitions report for 2022: a 40% decrease in the number of transactions

by time news

The total number of transactions amounted in 2022 to 142 transactions, compared to 2021 which included 238 transactions. Throughout the year 2022, it can be seen that the amount of transactions has decreased, which may herald a significant slowdown in the amount of transactions next year as well (see graph no. 3 below). In the first quarter of 2022, a high amount of transactions was recorded in comparison to the other quarters due to the continuity from 2021. At the same time, the total amount of the transactions disclosed to the public in 2022 is about 18 billion dollars, which is an increase of about 5% compared to 17.1 billion dollars in 2021. The high volume of transactions is mainly due to three transactions over a billion dollars, among them the Unity and Iron Source deal worth 4.4 billion dollars, which make up about 37% of the total value for 2022.

According to CPA Liat Anzel Aviel: “Extreme changes in the macroeconomic environment in 2022 led to high uncertainty in the market. The low interest rate environment that characterized the last decade changed unexpectedly with sharp interest rate increases in the central banks all over the world. The rise in the price of money combined with factors such as the ongoing global crisis in supply chains, price increases and geopolitical crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war, led to instability that moderates the fast pace of 2021 and investors’ motivation to make deals. However, the reaction speed of the local market in 2022 is not extreme and 2022 continues to show strength, supported by the closing of deals that started in 2021.”
