Pyeongchang-gun receives an operation report pursuant to the ‘Special Act on the End of Dog Eating’. Pyeongchang-gun took measures to report business operation and submit status surveys in accordance with the “Special Act on the Ending of Breeding, Slaughtering, and Distribution of Dogs for the Purpose of Dogs” (hereinafter referred to as the Special Act on the Ending of the Breeding, Slaughter, and Distribution of Dogs for the Purpose of Dogs) promulgated and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on February 6th. We have begun follow-up measures for implementation.

According to the special law, new or additional operations of facilities that breed, slaughter, distribute, and sell dogs for food are prohibited, and after a three-year grace period, all operations from production to sales will be restricted from February 27. The point is that the process is prohibited.

Therefore, local farms, slaughter/distribution businesses, and food service establishments (general restaurants) for the purpose of eating dogs must submit an operation report by May 7, three months after the date of promulgation of the law, and by August 5, six months after the date of promulgation of the law. An implementation plan for dog meat consumption must be submitted.

Owners of dog breeding farms, slaughter and distribution businesses must submit a report to the Livestock and Agricultural Machinery Department of the Pyeongchang-gun Agricultural Technology Center, and food service providers must submit a report to the Health Policy and Hygiene Team of the Pyeongchang-gun Public Health and Medical Center.

If you violate this and do not report within the deadline, a fine of up to 3 million won will be imposed, and not only will you be excluded from support for changing or closing your business, but your business may be immediately closed.

Meanwhile, we plan to visit the sites where the report was submitted to check the operation status, issue a certificate of operation report if there are no problems, and continue to manage compliance with the implementation plan until the closure is completed.

Park Mi-kyung, head of the Livestock and Agricultural Machinery Department, said, “We will do our best to ensure that the end of dog meat consumption is achieved smoothly,” and added, “We hope that those involved in the industry will not be disadvantaged by submitting operation reports and implementation plans within the deadline.”
