Pyeongtaek City (Mayor Jeong Jang-seon) announced that it has explained the achievements of the past two years and the policy direction for the remaining two years to local journalists on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the 8th local government election.
The city explained that the region’s industrial competitiveness has been strengthened over the past two years based on the semiconductor and hydrogen industries, and that recent achievements have also been made in the future automobile sector, and that the regional economy is being revitalized centered on future cutting-edge industries.
He also said that the city’s living conditions are improving through various housing development projects such as Godeok International New Town, Brain City, and Hwayang District, as well as the creation of Mosan, Eunsil, and Jisan Green Parks including Cheongbuk Sky Blue Lake Park, and that the quality of life for citizens is also improving through the strengthening of transportation, culture, medical, and welfare infrastructure.
With these achievements, Pyeongtaek City was selected as ‘No. 1 in the Basic Local Government Brand Reputation of the Republic of Korea’, ‘No. 2 in the Korean Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index’, and ‘Excellent Institution in the Comprehensive Evaluation of Cities and Counties in Gyeonggi Province’, and is consistently ranked as a city with a growing population, the youngest city in the metropolitan area, and a city with high marriage and birth rates, while standing out in various statistical indicators.
Pyeongtaek City plans to make every effort to improve areas closely related to the lives of citizens, such as economy, balanced development, environment, education, welfare, and culture, during the remaining term of the 8th local government, and create a ‘prosperous Pyeongtaek.’
First, in the △economic sector, Pyeongtaek City plans to attract additional corporate investment in the key industries of semiconductors, hydrogen, and future automobiles, and to attract related educational institutions and public institutions. Furthermore, it plans to create an environment where semiconductors, hydrogen, and future automobiles can be linked to each other, and to maximize synergy.
△In order to achieve balanced development, he expressed his intention to continue the urban regeneration project for revitalizing the old city center and the New Frontier project focusing on the development of the western region, while developing administrative towns, Anjung branch office, and Pyeongtaek Station Complex Culture Plaza without a hitch, and to continue the New Frontier project. He also said that he would revitalize public transportation in various regions by expanding railway lines such as the GTX, KTX, Bubal Line, and Seohae Line, and reorganizing city and metropolitan bus routes.
△In relation to the environment, we plan to respond more actively to the climate crisis. To this end, we will establish a ‘Pyeongtaek-type RE100 base’ utilizing clean hydrogen and expand the supply of commercial hydrogen and electric cargo vehicles. In addition, we will promote the designation of Pyeongtaek Lake as a key management reservoir and the expansion of urban forest projects to improve water quality and air environment.
△We will also continue to work on strengthening the education sector. First, we will build the KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus without a hitch, and we will continue to push forward with the Pyeongtaek Godeok International School construction project. In addition, we will work to build autonomous public high schools and science high schools, and we plan to expand the space for youth activities. In addition, we will run programs that can foster future cutting-edge talents in conjunction with currently operating universities and high schools.
△ In the welfare sector, policies are being established and promoted to provide equal benefits to everyone from newborns to the elderly. First, in order to create a ‘city good for raising children,’ a pediatric emergency medical system is being established, a public postnatal care center is being built, a children’s creative experience center is being created, and a Pyeongtaek-type childbirth encouragement policy is being promoted. As part of the ‘Pyeongtaek-type customized welfare,’ medical expenses for diabetes patients are being supported, free transportation for the elderly is being supported, youth loan interest support is being provided, a basic plan for the disabled is being established, and a support center for foreign residents is being operated.
Finally, △ the cultural sector plans to expand opportunities for citizens to enjoy culture by expanding infrastructure. We plan to successfully complete ongoing projects such as the Pyeongtaek Lake Tourist Complex, Pyeongtaek Port Waterside Space, Pyeongtaek Art Center, Pyeongtaek Museum, Baedari Living Culture and Sports Center, and Habuk-ri Sports Facility, and promote the return of the Alpha Ammunition Depot and the USFK-donated area to establish cultural facilities on the site.
