by times news cr

Pyeongtaek City (Mayor Jeong Jang-seon) has been implementing the ‘2024 Pyeongtaek Citizens’ Sleep Health Awareness Improvement Campaign’ since the 2nd with the theme of ‘Healthy Pyeongtaek where everyone sleeps well’ to promote healthy sleep for Pyeongtaek citizens.

In preparation for the midsummer tropical nights that disrupt the sleep of Pyeongtaek citizens, eight methods for ‘good sleep’, an essential element of a healthy life, are being widely publicized through the Pyeongtaek/Songtan Health Center’s main website, YouTube, and social networking services (SNS).

Due to busy daily life, a lot of stress, and increased smartphone usage, modern people are suffering from chronic sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is closely related to health problems such as adult diseases, cognitive decline due to weakened attention and concentration, and emotional problems such as depression and anxiety. Sufficient sleep is essential for a healthy life as it helps improve brain function, strengthen immunity, and reduce stress.

Ways to improve the sleeping environment and personal habits that can improve the quality of sleep include ▲maintaining your circadian rhythm ▲avoiding napping ▲engaging in moderate outdoor activities ▲quitting smoking and drinking ▲maintaining a sleeping environment ▲putting away digital devices ▲not checking the time in bed ▲practicing relaxation techniques, etc.

Pyeongtaek·Songtan Health Center is currently conducting mental health promotion education for elementary, middle, and high school students and middle-aged and older adults, and is leading life-respecting projects and mental health awareness improvement projects through ‘mental health self-diagnosis’ and ‘creating a life-respecting and safe village.’ In addition, it plans to conduct an educational campaign including self-diagnosis of insomnia through a corporate mental health campaign in the second half of the year, and plans to spur the creation of ‘Pyeongtaek where everyone sleeps well and is healthy’ through various promotional activities such as distributing elementary, middle, and high school newsletters.

Seo Dal-young, the director of Pyeongtaek Health Center, said, “We are conducting promotional activities to raise awareness of the importance of personal sleep hygiene, environment, and lifestyle habits in relation to the recent increase in patients with sleep disorders,” and added, “We will do our best to create a ‘happy Pyeongtaek where both mind and body are healthy’ by creating a Pyeongtaek city where everyone can sleep well.”
