Pyeongtaek City (Mayor Jeong Jang-seon) announced that it has kicked off the UAM industry development by holding the ‘UAM Industry Working Group Inauguration Ceremony’ on the 20th.

UAM (Urban Air Mobility) is an air transportation system that transports people and cargo in the sky over the city, and it has the characteristics of being quiet and eco-friendly. UAM is receiving attention as a future transportation system worldwide, and its market size is also expected to grow rapidly every year. The government has also selected the UAM industry as one of the top 10 national strategic technology projects and is conducting a demonstration project with the goal of commercialization by 2030.

The ‘UAM Industry Working Group Launch Ceremony’ held in Pyeongtaek City on this day was promoted to quickly secure domestic leadership in the industry. The working group consists of 15 UAM experts from public institutions, research institutes, academia, and companies, and will play a role in providing advice and suggestions for the creation of a UAM industry ecosystem.

The city plans to establish a vision and promotion strategy for the Pyeongtaek-type UAM industry, build a Pyeongtaek-type UAM network, attract UAM companies, and participate in UAM government public offering projects through the working group, and to create an industrial ecosystem.

Kim Tae-ho, CEO of PortOne, who gave the keynote speech that day, said, “Pyeongtaek City is a city that is geographically and environmentally competitive in the aviation transportation industry thanks to Pyeongtaek Port and Pyeongtaek Jije Station Complex Transfer Center,” and “We will work to revitalize the UAM industry by establishing differentiated strategies together with Pyeongtaek City.”

Mayor Jeong Jang-seon said, “I hope that this UAM industry working group will become a new focal point that can respond quickly to changes in the future mobility ecosystem through a network of industry, academia, and research institutes.” He added, “We will work to create synergy with the local semiconductor and hydrogen industries, take the lead in the UAM industry, and make UAM soar powerfully in the Pyeongtaek skies.”

Meanwhile, Pyeongtaek City plans to establish a comprehensive roadmap by promoting the ‘Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Industry Promotion Plan Research Service’ next year based on advice from UAM experts.
