The national player of Bulgaria for the “Davis Cup” Pyotr Nesterov qualified for the final on red courts in Santa Margherita di Pula (Italy) with a prize fund of 25 thousand dollars.
Our tennis player made a comeback and defeated former world number 93 Andrej Martin (Slovakia) in the quarterfinals with 3:6, 7:5, 6:4. The meeting lasted 3.03 hours.
The 35-year-old Martin led 4:0 and won the first set 6:3. In the second part, Nesterov took a 4:2 lead, but allowed a reversal at 4:5. However, the Bulgarian managed to win the next three games for 7:5, and at 4:5 he also reflected a match point on the opponent’s serve. In the third part, the national again led with 4:2, but it came to 4:4. However, he managed to close the match with two more games in his favor and qualify for the final.
In contention for the title, Piotr will meet fourth-seeded Paul Martin Tifon (Spain) tomorrow.
Later today, Nesterov and Yanaki Milev will play in the doubles semifinals. The Bulgarians, who are leaders in the scheme, go for a place in the final against number 3 Tommaso Companucci (Italy) and Dimitris Sakellaridis (Greece).
