It is a new fire that has mobilized the firefighters of the Pyrénées-Orientales for long hours. The fire started around 3 a.m. in the night from Sunday to Monday at the level of the national forest of Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes, according to L’Indépendant.
The front of the fire reaches 500 m according to France Bleu radio, which evokes particularly favorable conditions for fire since there are gusts of wind of up to 50 km / h. “In particularly dry vegetation, the fire will generate” fire swings “, explains on France Bleu Colonel Éric Belgioino, head of Sdis 66, that is to say that he will transport flaming twigs from a relief to another”.
The radio indicates that 110 ha have already been destroyed by the flames this Monday Monday morning. According to France Bleu, the fire is heading towards a wind farm located in the area. And the fire “is neither fixed nor controlled” indicates Monday noon Sdis 66.
Significant reinforcements expected
More than 180 firefighters from the Pyrénées-Orientales are currently mobilized to fight the flames and reinforcements are expected in the coming hours. According to several local media, 270 firefighters from Aude and Hérault should join them. Five planes and a helicopter water bombers were dispatched to the scene.
The RD20 departmental road has been closed to traffic between Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes and Prugnanes. And the authorities recommend avoiding the area.
