/ The former Iraqi youth national team coach, Qahtan Jathir, confirmed on Tuesday that the current Iraqi national team coach, Jesús Casas, is receiving the attention of the Iraqi Football Association and has received major financial support to build a new team, indicating that the Iraqi coaches would have been able to build a team that competes with Asia if Provide them with basic support, as he described it.
Jatheer told Agency, “The Iraqi Federation did not provide the Iraqi coach with a portion of what it provided to the foreign coach. If this current interest had been available to the Iraqi coach, he would have built a stable, high-level team that would compete with any Asian team, regardless of its strength.”
He continued: “I am optimistic about our team achieving the aspirations of the sports street and qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in light of this great interest and support for the national team and its technical staff.”
He added, “Jesus Casas has developed sufficient conviction about the players because of his proximity and presence in Iraq and his close follow-up of the Iraqi league. This is an aspect that coach Casas counts, and it contributes to building a good generation of local and professional players and establishing a strong team that competes with the greats of Asia.”
He pointed out that “the team’s chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup is good at the present time, especially after the increase in Asian seats qualifying for the World Cup.”
Jatheer denied inaccurate reports circulated by him, stressing that he did not belittle the coach of the Iraqi-Spanish national team, and that he mocked him and said that the only difference between him was “Qahtan Jatheer” and Kasas Al-Azraq Al-Ayoun.
He stressed that “Casas is a good coach and has his own style of training. He built a good generation that includes a mixture of our best local and professional players and led them well in different tournaments.”
He explained that what he said specifically: “The Iraqi coach possesses essentially the same information, experience, and technical capabilities that the coach or any foreign coach possesses, but the difference between the two is the support that the foreign coach receives, a difference between the eyes of the Iraqi and foreign coach, as the foreigner has blue eyes.”
