As announced in advance, Qatar Airways today presented the next generation of its QSuite Business Class during the Farnborough Airshow. At first glance, it looks very similar to the existing product, but it comes with several improvements.

For example, the screens in the four-seat suite can now be folded away, providing a noticeably more open space. And those traveling as a pair now have the option to sit facing each other (by the window) instead of side by side.

The new QSuite is expected to be introduced by the end of 2025 (with further delays possible) on board the new Boeing 777X. Additionally, SamChui mentions that newly delivered Airbus A350s will also receive the new QSuite, although this has not yet been confirmed by the airline.

Insights into the new Qsuite

As mentioned earlier, there are primarily two major changes. Both are based on the ability to fold the screens to the side. This significantly alters the spatial experience in the 4-seat suite. Previously, only the partition walls could be retracted; now there is a noticeably more open room:

With the same technology, travelers in the Qsuite Next Gen can also sit facing each other by the window. For couples, there used to be seats in the cabin center (with a double bed), and now a second option has been added.

Additionally, there are some revisions for all seats:

  • The design has been updated and now includes, among other things, tables with a black marble look.
  • There is a secure compartment for valuables that can only be reopened with a passcode.
  • The bed is said to be wider and longer than before (presumably compared to the Boeing 777).
  • There is now a wireless charging pad for smartphones.
  • A dedicated touchscreen has been added to control the seat functions.

Unfortunately, the photos in the press release only show a few of the new features. A better insight can be gained from the following video:

Conclusion

We don’t want to praise the new Qsuite too early. Aspects like seat comfort can only be evaluated once one actually sits in them. However, what we have seen so far looks like a decent upgrade – especially for those traveling in pairs or groups of four.

Future Trends in Airline Business Class Design

The unveiling of Qatar Airways’ next-generation QSuite at the Farnborough Airshow highlights significant shifts in airline cabin designs, particularly in business class. As airlines continue to enhance passenger experience, this innovation sets the stage for potential future trends in luxury air travel.

Increased Flexibility and Space Optimization

One of the standout features of the new QSuite is the ability to fold away screens, creating a more spacious environment. This design trend emphasizes the need for flexibility in seating arrangements. As more travelers seek comfort while flying, airlines may gravitate towards modular and adaptable seating configurations that can be tailored to individual or group preferences.

Enhanced Privacy Features

As seen with the new QSuite’s arrangement allowing for face-to-face seating, privacy is becoming a priority, especially among passengers traveling together. Future designs may incorporate additional partitions and personal spaces that provide a sense of seclusion, catering to those flying for business or leisure.

Integration of Technology

The introduction of features such as wireless charging pads and touchscreens for seat control reflects a growing trend towards technology integration. Expect to see airlines increasingly adopt smart technology that enhances convenience, from personalized entertainment options to automated service requests—all accessible with a simple interface.

Emphasis on Design and Comfort

The updated aesthetic of the QSuite, including marble-effect tables and upgraded bedding, signals a broader movement towards more luxurious interiors. Airlines may invest more in upscale materials and designs that evoke a sense of opulence, appealing to the discerning traveler looking for a premium experience.

Security and Personal Safety Innovations

With a focus on passenger safety, the implementation of secure compartments for valuables, which can only be accessed via a code, hints at future innovations in cabin security. As travel anxiety persists, airlines may prioritize features that ensure both personal safety and peace of mind for passengers.

These emerging trends in airline design not only reflect evolving passenger expectations but also indicate a broader shift in the aviation industry toward an emphasis on comfort, safety, and technological advancements. As competition among airlines intensifies, the pursuit of the ideal business class experience will likely shape the future of air travel.
