Qatar eliminates Uzbekistan and sets up a date with Iran in the Asian Cup semi-finals

/ The Qatari national team qualified for the semi-finals of the Asian Championship after defeating its Uzbek counterpart on penalties 3-2, in the 2023 Asian Football Cup currently taking place in Qatar.

The match kicked off at 6:30 pm at Al Bayt Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The first half ended with Qatar leading by one goal to none, which came as a result of friendly fire when Uzbek player Otkir Yesipov scored an own goal in the 27th minute.

In the second half, Uzbekistan scored the equaliser through Odiljon Hamrobekov in the 59th minute, and the score remained the same until the referee blew his whistle, announcing the end of regular time with a 1-1 draw for both teams. The match went to extra time, which ended with the same result, and the match went to penalty kicks, and Fatr won 3-2.

Qatar will meet Iran in the semi-finals next Wednesday at Al Thumama Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha.
