A consortium led by Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, chairman of Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), announced on Friday that it had submitted an offer to take over English football club Manchester United.

“Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani confirms that he has submitted an offer for (the) 100% takeover of Manchester United Football Club”, explains the press release, which does not give any details on the amount proposed for the Red Devils, but whose price could reach the record amount of 6 billion euros, according to the press.

Other sources put the amount at 4.5 billion euros, a sum very close to what the Glazer family, owner of Manchester United since 2005, expected to earn more than 5 billion euros.

“Regaining its past glory”

In the rest of the press release, the Qatari consortium dreams of helping the club “recover its past glory on and off the pitch and, above all, put the fans at the heart of Manchester United. And to detail: “The offer will be entirely debt-free via Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation, which will seek to invest in the football teams, training center, stadium and wider infrastructure, experience fans and the communities that the club supports”.

The Qatari leaders end by already looking to the future: “The vision of the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be renowned for its excellence in football and considered the greatest football club in the world. More details of the bid will be released, as appropriate, if and when the bidding process develops. »
