Qatar hopes for an Iraqi-Qatari Asian Cup final

/ On Saturday, Qatari Minister of Youth and Sports Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani expressed his wishes that the final of the Asian Cup, currently taking place in Doha, would be Iraqi-Qatari.

This came during his visit to the Iraqi national team training, according to a statement by the Iraqi Federation received by Agency.

The Qatari Minister congratulated the Jesus Casas Battalion on the distinguished level that the Iraqi team showed in the first rounds and obtaining full marks, praising the spirit of the Iraqi team players, in addition to the vision of the Iraqi Federation and its plans to attract young and youthful faces to the national team.

The Qatari Minister wished the Lions of Mesopotamia to go far and reach the furthest point in the tournament, and for the final to be between Iraq and Qatar, stressing that the Iraq-Jordan match is like two eyes in one head, because they are two Arab teams for which we have all love and respect.

The Iraqi national team intensified its training in preparation for facing its Jordanian counterpart tomorrow, Monday, at 2:30 pm at Khalifa International Stadium, as part of the round of 16 matches of the 2023 Asian Cup.

Today’s training was attended by the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, the first and second deputies, Ali Jabbar and Younis Mahmoud, members Ghaleb Al-Zamili, Mohammed Nasser, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, and Secretary-General Mohammed Farhan.

For his part, the President of the Iraqi Federation, Adnan Darjal, thanked Hamad for his visit to the Lions’ training, his follow-up and support for Iraqi sports, specifically football, and the position of the State of Qatar in standing by Iraq on many occasions, wishing the tournament success in terms of ideal organization and public attendance, especially since the State of Qatar was and still is a pioneer in successful experiences in hosting many tournaments at various levels.

On the other hand, tomorrow, Sunday, at 11:00 am, the press conference of the national team coach, Jesus Casas, will be held in Msheireb, and he will be accompanied by the national team player, Ali Jassim.

In a related context, the national team goalkeeper, Fahad Talib, will undergo medical examinations this evening, Saturday, to determine his condition after sustaining an injury during yesterday’s training.
