The United States has asked Israel to delay its ground offensive against Hamas, according to ‘The New York Times’. The Biden administration wants to buy time to negotiate the release of hostages, as well as to accelerate the arrival of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and for the deployment of troops.

This latest movement is due to the possible entry of other countries into the conflict. And there are three that have moved before anyone else who can act as mediators waiting to negotiate a ceasefire that seems impossible today: Qatar, Turkey and Egypt.

The emirate is the best positioned, with economic resources to help Gaza. In addition, Palestinian leaders take refuge in Qatar and have experience in peace talks, such as those between the United States and Iran or the Taliban.

Turkey also offers itself as a mediator in this conflict, bringing closer positions with Israel while supporting the Palestinian cause, although Erdogan’s weakness at the moment deducts points.

Finally there would be Egypt, which is a key actor that has been a useful mediator in all previous crises in the area.
