Doha: The Qatar FIFA World Cup has been given a special award for the best tourism and sports event held in the Arab world. The award was announced by the Arab Union for Tourist Media. The announcement was made at the Tourism Media Awards ceremony held in conjunction with the International Travel Trade Show (ITB) which concluded yesterday in Berlin, the German capital.
150 countries including Qatar participated in the ITB held from 7th to 9th. Representatives of the World Tourism Organization, Arab Union for Tourist Media, tourism officials of Arab countries and others participated in the tourism media award ceremony held at the Jordan Pavilion. The Arab Tourism Media Award is an award given to media that supports tourism projects in addition to tourism promotion, hotels and tourist centers.
The 22nd FIFA World Cup held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18 last year was described as the most memorable World Cup ever. 34 lakh people, including 14 lakh fans from different countries, came to watch 64 matches in 8 stadiums in Qatar for 29 days.
