Apple is about to present its iPhone 15, but it will continue to include a 5G modem produced by Qualcomm. To clear up doubts in this regard, the company has announced an extension of the current agreement, which expired this year, until 2026. It has been rumored that Apple could switch to its own modems from 2025, which would fit with the sale until 2026 of the iPhone that will be presented in 2024 with a Qualcomm modem — each iPhone model is usually two or three years on sale.
Apple acquired Intel’s 5G modem development division a few years ago after this company’s inability to develop a modem that fit Apple’s needs. But since then it has been developing all types of communications chips, and the final pearl would be that 5G modem, which would also lower costs and Qualcomm would make a dent in its accounts for the more than 200 million iPhones sold annually.
