Qualcomm will soon launch a new mid-market processor, Snapdragon 6 Gen 1

by time news

After changing the name and numbering of the first two tiers of its processors, and having already launched the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm also reaches the third tier, and the new processor for the company’s mid-range market will arrive according to the updated registration method, and it will change from Snapdragon 6xx for Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.

According to the details revealed by the leaker Ivan Blas, it is still impossible to understand exactly what the structure of the processor will be, and on which Kryo cores it will be based, but there will probably be eight cores with a maximum speed of 2.2 GHz. Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will be produced in a 4 nanometer manufacturing process, under the internal code name SM6450, and it will support, among other things, LPDDR5 memory with a maximum speed of 2,750 MHz, with the working memory volume being able to reach up to 12 gigabytes.

Other expected features are of course a 5G connection, using the Snapdragon X62 modem, which supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz with a maximum data download speed of 2.9 GB/s. It will also offer support for the company’s current fast charging technology, Quick Charge 4+, which in its case is not clear exactly which Adreno chip it is, will support HDR gameplay, i.e. 10-bit color, and also H.265 and VP9 encoders in the hardware itself.

The maximum support for the possible display will be with a maximum resolution of FHD+ and with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and in the field of connectivity, next to WiFi 6E there will be support for Bluetooth 5.2 and aptX encoders at different levels.

According to the published information, the photography setup will be based on a Spectra chip that supports three 12-bit image processors, with the devices able to support up to three 13-megapixel cameras, a 25 + 16-megapixel camera or a single camera with a 48-megapixel sensor.

As mentioned, not all the details are fully known yet, and it will be interesting to see if now after the disclosure Qualcomm will advance its announcement. In any case, if the processors are not already on the way to the manufacturers, it is likely that phones based on Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will only arrive at the beginning of the first quarter of 2023.
