Qualcomm’s latest Adreno Neural Fusion (ANF) technology has delivered dramatic improvements in mobile gaming performance and power efficiency, according to two independent reports from Thelec and Androidheadlines. The advancements, unveiled at the 2026 Snapdragon Summit, position the company to redefine mobile gaming capabilities through AI-driven hardware innovations.
Performance Gains and Power Efficiency
Thelec’s benchmark tests demonstrated ANF’s transformative impact, showing a 178% increase in frame rates when enabled. A game that ran at 17.7 FPS natively reached 49.2 FPS with ANF, surpassing the 30 FPS threshold for smooth gameplay. Power consumption also dropped significantly, from 6.2 watts in native mode to 1.1 watts—a reduction to nearly one-sixth of the native level. This efficiency gain stems from hardware changes to the Adreno 850 GPU, including enhanced matrix acceleration and integrated AI technologies like super resolution and frame generation.
Androidheadlines corroborated these improvements, citing a 44% performance uplift over previous generations for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The chip’s 40% power efficiency improvement, along with 12% gains in high-performance memory, was highlighted as a key innovation. As mobile games grow larger and more complex, developers need faster and smarter access to memory,
said Lekha Motiwala, Qualcomm’s Senior Director of Product Management, Mobile Handset.
AI Integration and New Features
Qualcomm’s new Adreno Matrix Core, a dedicated GPU core for AI tasks, enables advanced AI models right inside the graphics pipeline,
according to Androidheadlines. This integration supports AI super resolution and frame generation, enhancing graphical fidelity and ensuring smoother gameplay. The technology is already supported by over 20 titles, including Honkai Star Rail
and Diablo Immortal.
Thelec’s report emphasized hardware-level changes, such as the second-generation Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM), which reduces DDR memory access. This aligns with the company’s focus on balancing performance with energy efficiency.
Industry Reactions and Future Implications
Thelec’s tests also revealed the device’s 24GB of SK hynix LPDDR5X DRAM, underscoring Qualcomm’s commitment to high-bandwidth memory solutions. This hardware pairing suggests a strategic push toward handling increasingly complex mobile games, which require both powerful GPUs and efficient memory management.
