IBM CEO Arvind Krishna in an interview with Nikkei Asian Review declaredthat within three to five years, quantum computers will be able to find commercial applications. According to Mr. Krishna, a quantum computer with the number of qubits from 4,000 to 10,000 will be enough for commercial use. Now the most powerful quantum computers do not even have 500 qubits.

Arvind Krishna also announced IMB’s collaboration with the University of Chicago and the University of Tokyo, which involves the creation of a quantum computer with 100,000 qubits in ten years. IBM is going to allocate over $100 million for this project. The company believes that there are enough specialists in Japan who understand quantum computing. Quantum computers in the future will be able to perform tasks that are too complex and costly for supercomputers.
