Quebec-Lévis Tunnel | No cars will exit downtown Quebec

by time news

(Quebec) The government of Quebec announced Tuesday that no car will exit the future Quebec-Lévis tunnel in downtown Quebec and that road transport will henceforth be concentrated on the existing axes, namely the Laurentian highway to the north and the Dufferin-Montmorency highway to the east.

The Minister of Transport, François Bonnardel, explains that this decision will make it possible to increase the attractiveness of the public transport offer in the tunnel, since it will be the only possible mode of transport for direct access to the city center.

The Minister adds that ridership projections taking this change into account will be made over the coming months, in particular so that the official funding request from the federal government can take it into account.

He also affirms that discussions will take place with the City of Quebec in the months to come on the stowage of the tunnel and the municipal network. In particular, it will be determined whether it is appropriate to maintain an exit only for buses in order to serve the eastern part of the lower town and to properly anchor the tunnel to the municipal network as a whole.
